Tuesday,
March 13, 2012: Kerala government chief whip PC George claimed CPI(M) MLA
Selvaraj had resigned from the party as he was “dejected” with its functioning
and six or seven MLAs from that party are ready to follow suit.
“There
are six or seven CPI(M) MLAs with firm ideologies who are dejected over the
party’s functioning and are ready to quit the party,” he told reporters here.
Claiming
that Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan was aware of Selvaraj’s decision,
George demanded that the CPI(M) leader clarify if he had tried to discourage
Selvaraj from doing so or had encouraged him to submit his resignation.
Lashing
out at both Achuthanandan and CPI(M) state Secretary
Pinarayi Vijayan, George said this resignation was only a
beginning and more people would desert the party.
George
said he had never approached Achuthanandan for favours while Achuthanandan was
Chief Minister.
“If
UDF wants people with integrity then Selvaraj should be accommodated in the
front,” he said to a query.
Selvaraj
resigned from the House on March 9 saying he was a victim of “factionalism” in
the party and that he was “forced” to take the decision after realising that he
would not get “any justice or protection” from the party leadership.
Selvaraj
had said he was deeply hurt by targeted attacks against party workers who were
not in the good books of the leadership.
George
also criticised Achuthanandan for his “unsavoury” remark on former CPI(M)
activist Sindhu Joy, who had resigned from the party and joined Congress before
the Assembly election last year, following differences with the leadership.
