Raw deal for Kerala in Rail budget


Wednesday, March 14, 2012: The rail budget presented by Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday has been unkind to Kerala.
For Kerala nothing much was offered except work on the Kanjikode factory to be completed soon. A survey will be conducted for a new railway terminal in Nemam. Also, a coach terminal in Kottayam is also planned.
The discussion would begin for a feasibility study on a new superfast rail route between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod.
New trains introduced in the rail budget.
Kochuveli-Yeshwanthpur weekly train
Two new memu trains, one on the Ernakulam - Thrissur route and the other on Palakkad - Coimbatore-Erode route. The Mangalore –Thiruvananthapuram Express extended to Nagercoil
Mangalore-Palakkad Express extended to Coimbatore. The Nizamudhin - Kanyakumari express has been made twice a week. A daily train from Chennai to Mangalore via Shornur. Bangalore –Kochuveli daily express.
New rail lines
Sabarimala - Chenganoor, Kanhangad- Panathoor.
Survey for Angadipuram-Ottapalam and Chenganoor Thiruvananthapruam rail lines. Survey for Thiruvananthapuram –Kanyakumari doubling of rail lines. Kollam , Paravoor station to be uplifted as modern stations.
