UDF tally in Kerala Assembly goes up to 72

Wednesday, March 21, 2012: The UDF tally in the 140 member state Assembly has gone up to 72 with the thumping victory of Anoop Jacob in the Piravom by- poll defeating his nearest rival MJ Jacob of the LDF by a huge margin of 12,071 votes.
UDF candidate Anoop Jacob said that the lead he got in Piravom by-poll was above all expectations. He sought to explain it as a result of collective work of UDF in the election. UDF argued the victory as a reflection of efficient governance of Oommenn Chandy government in the State.
Talking to reporters after his victory in the election, he said ‘this is a recognition to the democracy and I am dedicating this win to my father.’ Everyone should learn a lesson from the result and if the UDF had worked together like this in the previous election it could have won more than 100 seats, he said.
