10 crore was given to Minister Babu as bribe, reveals Biju Ramesh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The secret statement of Biju Ramesh, Kerala Bar Hotels Association working president, that an amount of Rs 10 crore was given as bribe for Minister K Babu, has been revealed. His statement to the court said the amount was given for reducing the fees for renewing the bar license.

The money collected by the bar association was given to Babu by bar owner Krishnadas. Cash is offered to Babu every year. His statement stated that by giving 10 crore, the fees was reduced from 30 lakh to 23 lakh. The minister also demanded 11 lakh for beer and wine license.

Finance Minister K M Mani had demanded Rs 5 crore, revealed Rajkumar Unni, bar association president, at the meeting. Unni and Elegance Bar owner Binoy participated in the meeting held before the budget presentation for the year 2012-13, alleged Biju in his statement. From the amount of one crore given to Mani in three phases, 50 lakh was handed over to him at his house in Pala. Cash was also given to Health Minister V S Sivakumar.
