No hostility with Pinarayi, says Yechuri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sitaram Yechuri, new general secretary of the CPM came forward supporting opposition leader V S Achuthanandan. He justified the act of VS greeting him at the party congress.

In an interview to a private channel, he said there is nothing wrong on the side of the leader congratulating him. VS is a senior leader and his contributions to the party should continue, he said.

Yechury is a leader close to VS. The leader was made a special invitee due to the strong intervention of Yechury. His intimacy with VS may cause ripples in Kerala and it may upset the loyalists of Pinarayi faction.

The party will decide whether Pinarayi Vijayan should be made the chief minister candidate in the next assembly polls, said Yechury. I have no personal enmity with him.

Yechury confirmed that there was differences of opinion on the general secretary post at the party congress. There is nothing wrong if polls were held. Many names were considered for the post. Only after selecting the new central committee, there was a consensus on who should be the general secretary. If there is a situation of protecting the interests of a section in the party, it would be corrected, he said.
