Demand for leadership change in Congress may spell doom for government

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are hints that the I Group in Congress may demand leadership change just before or after the polls to local self-government bodies. The government has just one more year in power and the I group may run out of time if it doesn’t act immediately.

The local body election will happen in either September or October. The I group’s aim is to raise Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to chief minister’s post as it  feels government’s loss of popularity day by day will destroy the UDF. There have been a number of scams such as solar scam, bar bribery scam, land grabbing scam and all such cases were somehow related to chief minister’s office. In all these cases, the I group has not tried to show the chief minister or the CMO in bad light. It has only supported the A group but now the present situation has forced the I Group to think otherwise.

On the other hand, A group may take a dispassionate decision as the JDU also shows tendency to stray away from the UDF. However there are several speculations surrounding the above discussed issue. One is, the A group may dissolve the assembly without giving chance for leadership change.
