KOTTAYAM: A wholesale dealer who supplied HANS in areas stretching from Palakkad to Kayamkulam has been nabbed by the police. The arrested person is Chandran (57) from Alappuzha Muhamma Manikyamangalam and he was picked up from Kottayam. He will be presented in the court on Thursday. 250 packets of HANS have been recovered from him.
He reportedly confessed to the police that he bought HANS from Coimbatore. “Ten thousand packets are brought in a single time and supplied to retail dealers from Palakkad to Kottayam. Just one time in a month he goes to Coimbatore to buy the product. On days he is not able to reach there, his friend will sent it to him by bus,” the police said, adding that earlier also he had been arrested for the same reason.
According to the police he bought HANS for Rs 4 per packet and sold it here for Rs 30 to 35. He supplied the goods to most shops, mainly wayside shops, in Kottayam.
Police under the instruction of DySP V Ajith raided the rented house of the accused in Eerayilkkada after District police chief M P Dinesh was tipped off. Kottayam West CI Sakkariah Mathew, SI T R Jiju and shadow police I Sajikumar and Praksh Babu carried out the arrest.
