Duel over walkway: Accused student remanded

ALUVA: A student, who allegedly killed an old woman after quarrelling with her over walkway adjacent to her land, has been remanded by the Aluva court.

Ajumal alias Aju (21) from Meykkadu, Chengamanadu has been remanded to 14 days’ custody.  Ajumal is a third year BCom student of Ankamali St Andes College.

After the death of his parents years ago, Aju had been living with Aju’s father’s mother Ammini. Aju on Saturday night stabbed his neighbour Ammini (62), wife of Meykkadu Panangadan house Kumaran.

For the past several years Aju’s relatives and the neighbour had been on warpath over the walkway  issue. The path that led to the house of the accused lie adjacent to the late Ammini’s house. The formation of puddles and slush on the path was what that had led to the brawl.

On the Saturday, Aju’s grandmother and Ammini had a heated argument, which provoked Aju to commit the crime. Ammini had been stabbed several times by the time locals reached to save her. Though she was soon rushed to hospital, she died Sunday morning.

The case is being investigated by a team led by Angamaly CI.
