Attingal twin murder: Prosecution for death penalty, convicts for leniency

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the Attngal murder case, the prosecution has sought death penalty for first accused Lino Mathew and second accused and his lover Anu Shanthi.

Special public prosecutor on Friday made a plea to the court to consider it as the rarest of rare cases.

But the Defence counsel pleaded for leniency. Anushanthi broke down in front of the judge and pleaded that she may not be branded as the woman who killed her son. "I did not abet the killing of my daughter. I am ready to face any penalty other than the death penalty," she said crying profusely.

Nino pleaded not guilty and sought a small penalty.

The sentence will be pronounced on Monday.
