High Command surrenders before Chandy, tainted to contest polls

NEW DELHI: 34 out of the 39 MLAs including Benny Behnnan, Dominic Presentation, K C Joseph, Adoor Prakash and K Babu, whom KPCC chief V M Sudheeran did not want in the fray, will contest the assembly polls. The high command will announce the candidates list including them today itself. The high command surrendered before Chief Minister Oommen Chandy even after Sudheeran strictly demanded to keep them out.

A consensus has been taken to field 34 out of the 39 MLAs. Minister C N Balakrishnan, Therambil Ramakrishnan and P A Madhavan have lost seats. Aryadan Muhammed and T N Prathapan had earlier stated that they are not in the fray.

The delay occurred in announcing the list after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC Chief V M Sudheeran refused to budge from their respective stands. Chandy informed the high command that if the ministers are denied tickets then he would also step down. He said allegations were not levelled against the ministers alone, he too had come under the glare of corruption.  If long time contenders should opt out, then I also will be included in that. The chief minister said that he is demanding seats for the ministers taking into account their winnable chances.

If seats are denied to my cabinet members after disbelieving them then it is equal to disbelieving me, he said. The high command was forced into conceding. If the list is prepared as per the demand of Sudheeran, then the party will surely suffer a setback in the polls, the high command leaders evaluated. The leadership later decided to reject his stand. Meantime, Oommen Chandy will be solely responsible on the tainted. If they are defeated in the polls, the high command has hinted to take action.
