THRISSUR: CMP State Secretary and former MLA M K Kannan was arrested on Tuesday for storing explosive materials beyond the permissible limit. The explosive was in sales depot of the cooperative society headed by him.
The permission was there to store 400 kg fire crackers but in the raid conducted by the police 2000kg crackers were recovered. This was followed by his arrest. The MLA got bail later.
In 1980, Kannan was a Thrissur MLA. There were reports he would be contesting from Thrissur this time also.
The police had intensified checking in the wake Paravur fireworks tragedy. As many as 112 persons died in Sunday’s incident and many with severe injuries are battling for life in various hospitals.
