Shanimol to contest from Ottapalam; Kaipamangalam for RSP

PALAKKAD: KPCC president V M Sudheeran has informed that Shanimol will be the Congress candidate from the Ottapalam constituency in Palakkad district. Former MLA A K Mani will contest from Devikulam.

Earlier, Shanta Jayaram was chosen as the candidate for Ottapalamm but she was removed as candidate as the local leaders strongly opposed to her candidature.

Sudheeran announced the names of new candidates after holding talks with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Ramajaram was also removed as Devikulam candidate following opposition.

Sudheeran said it was decided to give Kaipamangalam to RSP. Though RSP demanded Payyanur seat, Congress was not ready for it. The Congress also chose candidates for Kanjangadu, Payyanur and Kalyassery.

Sudheeran said there would not be any more changes in the candidates’ list. The final declaration will be made by Congress high command. Babu George was appointed as Pathanamthitta UDF convenor and Josey Sebastian as Kottayam convenor.  Talks with INTUC president R Chandrasekharan will continue to sort out the issue raised by them.  “The Congress can sense the sentiments of INTUC. We hope to solve all issues amicably tomorrow,” he added.
