Drunkards go on a rampage at Transport depot: Five injured

KOOTHATTUKULAM: A bunch of drunkards attacked KSRTC bus depot today, damaging three buses and injuring five KSRTC staff.

The incident happened at 1:30 in the morning. A team of ten youths who rode their bikes into the depot following a bus, unleashed the attack.

The three buses were the ones that were being repaired at the Workshop garage. Front glass, rear glass and head lights were smashed.

Vehicle Supervisor M P Sasi (50), Security Guard V K Ravi (48), Mechanical staff K R Jinuraj (36), Mechanics Dipin Babu (30) and C Varghese (44) were the persons who were injured. They were attacked using soda bottle and iron rod.

The injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Koothattukulam. The attackers were known to have been furious as their vehicles were not given the side by a Superfast attached to the depot.

The security guards who tried to prevent the attack were severely beaten up. The attackers also ransacked the office, destroying office furniture and pulling down files.

Later the police team under SI G S Manuraj rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospitals. Several Union leaders reached the depot to express their protest.

Case against 10; Seven persons have been arrested

Police today filed cases against 10 persons in connection with the Kootattukulam attack.

The arrested are Chorakkuzhy Pookulathu Kunnu Jivi Jose (20), Chambamala Nandikkattu Sumesh (20), Ran Erattaplakkil Bijibalan (18), Kochukunnel Sharon Francis (18), Chorakkuzhy Thadam Prince Jose (20), Cherukunnu Jinson Mathew (20) and Koothattukulam Pazhayaroad Chellambal Jishnu (19).
