Octogenarian kills wife, son after row over AC usage

ANGAMALY: A man bludgeoned to death his wife and son after a duel over use of Air conditioner. The accused Paul (84) has been arrested. The incident happened at Karukutty in Angamaly at 1:30 am on Saturday.    

The murdered were Paul’s wife Mary (74) and son Thomas (54).
A retired Railway office supt, Paul was living with his wife and son. According to neighbours, there were frequents quarrels over escalating electricity bill and discontinuation of evening prayer sessions in the house.

According to the police, yesterday also Paul picked a quarrel with his wife and son. Paul’s wife and son slept in a room and he turned furious, seeing the AC on in their room at around 1:30 am. The irate Paul went straight to car shed, picked up an iron road, returned to the room and smashed his son’s head. Mary, who woke up and started yelling seeing the incident was also bludgeoned using the same road.  

After the incident, Paul called up his relatives to inform about what he had done.
The high way police and Fire force personnel reached the spot after they were alerted by the relatives. Though both were shifted to a private hospital in Angamaly, the son had already died while the mother died at the hospital.

After coming to know about the deaths, the accused made an attempt to hang himself, but this was foiled by the locals.
Paul’s NRI son Johny’s daughter was sleeping in another room while the murder was committed. Thomas was a divorcee and he was living with his father and mother after the break up

The bodies have been taken to Alappuzha for post-mortem. DySP Christom, CI K Viswanathan and SI Sameesh has initiated further procedures.
