Three get Rigorous Imprisonment for raping Bangladeshi woman

KOZHIKODE: Three persons have been awarded Rigorous Imprisonment for kidnapping a Bangladeshi woman and subjecting her to gang-rape. Pronouncing the order, Erinjapalam Special Additional Sessions court also imposed a fine on the convicts from No 1 to 3 - A B Naufal (30) from Thrikkaripur, Suhail Thangal alias Bavakka (44) from Wayand his wife Sajitha alias Ambika (35).  
Naufal was given eight-year imprisonment and asked to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. Suhail Thangal got five years’ imprisonment and his wife Ambika got three-year jail. Each was asked to pay a fine Rs 25000 also.

The convicts from No 4 to 8 – Siddique (25), Abdul Kareem (47), Riyaz (34), Abdu Rahman (45) and T K Moidu (45) were acquitted in the case.

According to the prosecution, the woman who had come to India to visit Haji Ali Majar Masjid after an estrangement with her husband was brought to an apartment in Eranjipalam after she was offered a highly-paid job. There she was eventually raped by five persons.

The first accused, A B Naufal, was the person who first came into contact with the woman on a train at Dumdum station on May 17. He is said to have sedated the woman after making her inhale some poisonous substance.

Later she was brought to the apartment of Suhair Thangal and Ambika at Eranjipalam on May 27. There she was locked up in a room and subjected to rape.

On May 28, she managed to escape the sex racket. Some locals, after coming to know about her plight, took her to Nadakkavu police station.
