Tuesday, November 29, 2011: Accusing political parties in Kerala of misleading people on safety of Mullaperiyar Dam, DMK today sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s intervention to “desist” them from engaging in a “false propaganda” and await final orders of the Supreme Court on it.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, DMK MPs said his intervention will help allay fears of the people of Kerala on the safety of the dam built in 1895 and “put an end to the animosity created among the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.”
The DMK delegation also sought an all-India ban on the screening of the multi-lingual film ‘Dam 999′. The film is a story of a dam built during colonial rule that is cracking.
” Kerala had been consistently making false propaganda about the safety of the dam through media and other means. The recent projection of a movie by name ‘Dam 999′ is part of such false propaganda,” the memorandum alleged.
