THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will hold a high level conference on Monday under the leadership of Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar to chart out further measures to contain the dengue fever, H1N1, leptospirosis and other diseases spreading all over the State at a fast rate.
The situation is compounded by the non-cooperation agitation began by government doctors on Saturday.
Arrangements have been made to ensure sufficient supply of blood platelets to taluk in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam districts from where the highest incidence of dengue fever had been reported.
Official report reveals that about 40 people have died of fever, while unconfirmed reports put the figure to 82.
The Health Department claims that nine people died of dengue fever. Two deaths due to dengue fever are reported on Saturday.
Within a span of five months, about 2174 people caught dengue fever. Of them, 1139 hails from Thiruvananthapuram.
In a statement, Minister Sivakumar said that all government health care institutions from primary health centres to medical colleges were equipped to treat patients with fever. Action had been taken to appoint additional hands and extend the services of temporary hands.
