May 07, 2011: The Plantation Corporation of Kerala (PCK), which used the banned chemical pesticide endosulfan extensively on its cashew estates in Kasaragod district, has decided to earmark 25 per cent of the jobs now arising in the worker category for the victims who are afflicted with various diseases caused by the aerial spraying of the pesticide.
After the last meeting of the current Governing Board here on Friday, K. Subair Khan, Managing Director, said the Board had also decided to release Rs.5 crore to undertake relief works for the victims. The amount would be handed over to the Chief Minister on Saturday morning, he said.
The Cabinet had earlier decided to extend this amount to the victims from the PCK, he said. The Board also decided to conduct medical camps.
