May 06, 2011: Agitating Air India pilots have finally called off their 10-day-long strike after the airline management decided to reinstate the terminated pilots and withdraw the de-recognition of pilots’ union.
The pilots will report back to work from 10 pm tonight. The main reason for the strike by the ICPA was that its members want their salaries at par with a higher-paid group that flies for the airline. While members of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) are paid largely for how many hours they fly, others enjoy a fixed salary.
The national airlines had been operating just 10 per cent of its domestic flights for the last one week. The strike saw the airline lose close to Rs. 150 crore.
