Case against Koliyakode, Suresh Kurup
KOCHI: Some unwarranted scenes were witnessed in Piravom after CPM leaders and MLA K Suresh Kurup and Koliyakode Krishnan Nair distributed slips to voters outside the booth. The two distributed slips in front of booth No 121 of Koothattukkulam Town at 8.45 am Saturday morning.
A dispute arose when the police stopped them from distributing slips. A direction from the election commission had asked leaders not belonging to the constituency to leave the place when the campaign comes to an end. The police questioned them for violating the directive. When they opposed the move, UDF leaders came to the fore and a tense situation prevailed. Normalcy returned when the MLAs left the place.
The Koothattukkulam police registered a case against the two for violating election commission’s directive.
Suresh Kurup is the MLA of Ettumanur, Kottayam and Koliyakode Krishnan Nair is the MLA of Vamanappuram, Thiruvananthapuram. The two were given the charge of the booth during election campaign.
