Chennai: Headless body found in trunk in train

CHENNAI: Railway police here are trying to identify the headless body of a man aged between 40-45 found in an abandoned steel trunk in an unreserved compartment of the New Delhi-Chennai Grand Trunk Express that arrived here Saturday morning, said an official.
Speaking to IANS, V. Ponramu, deputy superintendent of police, said: "The cleaning staff at the Central Station saw the trunk lying under a seat."
"Railway police were informed and the trunk was opened in their presence to find the headless body packed in a black polythene sheet," he said.
"Except for two moles on either side of the chest there are no other marks on the body. We have sent the body for post mortem," Ponramu said.
He said all railway stations between New Delhi and Chennai had been informed and asked to look out for missing person complaints.
"Police will also check the CCTV footage to see if anyone handled such a trunk on the platform," Ponramu said.
"The body was about to decompose. Based on the condition of the body, death would have occurred around 12 hours prior to its discovery," Ponramu said.
The post-mortem report is expected in a day or two, he added.
