Missing teacher in custody

CHENNAI: A school teacher, who went missing along with a Plus One student, was brought back to the city from Delhi and remanded in judicial custody on Friday.
On March 4, the student from Sowcarpet had gone missing, following which his father Saravan Kumar lodged a complaint with the Elephant Gate police, besides filing a habeas corpus petition.
Subsequent investigations revealed that his teacher Kumudu too had gone missing at the same time.  Also, the boy’s father had earlier told police that the teacher had sent obscene messages to his son. On Wednesday, police laid a trap for Kumudu after they received information that she was in Delhi and had called up her relative asking her to send Rs 10,000.
Police, who instructed her relative to ask Kumudu to wait in a particular spot in Delhi to get the money, rushed there and caught both the teacher and the
student.
Police sources said that the two had travelled to various places and the teacher had even sold her jewellery to meet their expenses.
The teacher also denied kidnapping the boy, while the latter claimed he wanted to travel.
Kumudu, who was brought back to the city along with the student, was produced before a court and was remanded to 15 days judicial custody, while the boy was taken to a juvenile home.
“He was afraid to go with his father. So, we have left him at the juvenile home for a few days,” a police official said.
