KOCHI: ‘Naalam 2012,’ the third edition of the intercollegiate cultural fiesta organised by the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), will begin on Saturday. The two-day festival will see around 600 students from about 45 colleges from across South India, competing on various platforms while eying an opportunity to win cash prizes ranging from Rs 4,000 to Rs 25,000.
The competitions will begin on Saturday and will be held at the new NUALS campus at Kalamassery.
'Bodhi,’ the quiz competition, carries the highest cash prize of Rs 25,000. Participants of ‘Alankara,’ the fashion show, will focus on the theme ‘Flip Side’ which aims at merging opposite and contrasting elements. The art competition ‘Kalpitha’ will comprise two art and creativity based competitions involving T-shirt designing (on a chart) and crafting out of the junk.
‘Vyaktitva,’ the event which focuses on the overall personality of the participant, will consist of three rounds - questionnaire round, personal interview and a final round.
‘Aarohi,’ the western band competition will have teams battling for a prize money of Rs 17,500. ‘Mudra,’ the group dance competition, and ‘Nisvana,’ the Indian group song competition, hold the second biggest cash prize of Rs 20,000 each.
‘Dvitva,’ the duet dance competition, will see dancers burning the floor to a song chosen an hour before the competition. Contestants at ‘Abhinaya,’ the theatre competition, will showcase their acting skills by performing English plays.
Competitions like ‘Nidhi,’ the treasure hunt and ‘Kurukshetra,’ the game parlour will be held to test the endurance, unity and team spirit of the participating teams.
Other competitions include ‘Swara’ (solo song competition), ‘Drishya’ (photography competition), ‘Roopaka’ (solo dance competition), ‘Avalokana’ (film critique competition), ‘Antakshari’ and ‘Dumb Charades.’ The details of the registrations and the rules of each competition are available at www.naalam2012.com.
