Keralite John Sinoj shot dead in police encounter in Chennai


Tuesday, March 13, 2012: A Keralite was shot dead by the police near Dindigul bus stand in Tamil Nadu. The dead has been identified as John Sinoj (32) of Paralam in the state.
Police said Sinoj, one among a gang of five, was one among the accused in connection with the kidnapping of Kathiravan, a DMK activist and a native of Ramanathapuram. The gang had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crores. As the activist couldn’t make the payment, they took away his belongings and threw him near Madurai airport before leaving for Chennai by a flight.
The police had registered a case on the complaint by Kathiravan on February 12. A team had been formed to nab the guilty. While the team was searching for the gang in Kerala, they got a tip-off that the gang was staying in Suganya lodge near Dindigul bus stand. When they tried to question the inmates of two rooms on Monday, the gang members tried to attack them. The police shot one of them and overpowered three others.
Even though Sinoj was rushed to Dindigul Government Hospital, he was declared brought dead. The other gang members were identified as Varichur Selvam of Tamil Nadu, Varghese, Biju and Anish, all natives of Kerala. However, Biju managed to escape from the police ne
