New revelations in land allotment case against VS

Thursday, March 22, 2012: Kerala Government has informed the High court that FIR and connected records against Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and others in the case relating to assignment of about 2.33 acres in Kasaragod district, would reveal offence of a “serious” nature against all the accused.
A statement filed by Director General of Prosecutions, T Asaf Ali, alleged that by abusing the power of Chief Minister, Revenue Minister, high-level officers of Revenue Department and top bureaucrats of IAS, the accused had abetted in total breach of justice.
The land had been assigned to K P Soman, an ex-serviceman and close relative of Achuthanandan.
The statement was filed on a petition by A Suresh, former secretary of Achutanandan seeking to quash the FIR. The role of Achuthanandan and petitioner as conspirators in their “culpable” attempt to get lifted the ban of 25 years saleable right to Soman, was evident from the statement of Land Revenue Commissioner, it was stated.
Along with the statement, the DGP has also produced a statement of Land Revenue Commissioner, K R Muralidharan given before the Chief Judicial Magistrate.
According to the statement, he met the Chief Minister at his residence in December 2010. The petitioner and Chief minister were there and the latter asked him about the possibility of lifting the condition.
The state government had earlier informed the court that there was sufficient material against Achuthanandan in the case.
