Nurses’ strike: State Govt’s intervention sought
Sunday, March 18, 2012: Janadipathya Mahila Association members today demanded the state government’s urgent intervention in order to solve the problems faced by the striking nurses in Kochi Lakeshore hospital.
Addressing the mediapersons here on Sunday, the association informed that the agitation staged by the nurses cannot be suppressed. Meanwhile extending full support to the agitation staged by the nurses in the Lakeshore hospital here the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists today laid siege to the hospital.
The protest march organized by the DYFI Ernakulam district committee was stopped by the police, which led to a minor scuffle between the police and the protestors.
The nurses’ association had once again launched an indefinite strike as a protest against the hospital management’s decision to initiate disciplinary action against the striking nurses.
The nurses’ association demanded that the nurses who were sacked from service must be taken back, but the management remained in their adamant stand.
