Speaker rubbishes allegations over budget content leakage

Tuesday, March 20, 2012: Rubbishing the allegations that a few budget proposals have been leaked to the press, Speaker G Karthikeyan informed the Assembly that media speculations on the rise in retirement age cannot be considered as leakage of budget content.
Finance Minister K M Mani too made it clear that none of the highly secretive budget proposals like those pertaining to tax rate revision had gone in print, prior to the budget presentation.
Earlier, the Opposition had raised a furore over the alleged leak of budget proposals and the Speaker was forced to direct the government to conduct an inquiry.
