Fake drinking water sale thriving on train

KANNUR: Fake bottled drinking water business is thriving on trains even when routine checks are being carried out by the railways, say sources. Empty bottles are collected, refilled with ordinary water and sold off as new bottles. Besides this, the Tamil Nadu based groups doing illegal business also paste fake sticker on bottles and sell them off as brand new bottles.

There are even companies in Tamil Nadu that make duplicate bottles of branded companies.

Sometimes contract pantry workers are hand in glove with group or companies selling non-sterilised water. There are complaints that passengers who drink water from such bottles develop throat infection and other diseases.

If the water bottle’s seal are found to be partially or completely broken, one can guess that it could be fake; there could also be difference in taste.
