Vizhinjam: Tender extended, CM to hold talks with companies

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If the companies have any kind of anxiety in connection with the Vizhinjam harbour project, it would be solved legally and transparently, said Minister K Babu in charge of harbour department.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will hold talks with the company representatives who showed interest in the project. Talking to the media after a high level meeting, he said a re-tender would be conducted as there were no bidders for the project.

It is a shock for the government as none of the companies came forward to submit tenders. The government is responsible to solve the anxieties of the companies if there are any. The government alone cannot fulfill the Vizhinjam project. The government had sought a relaxation in Cabotage Law for the Vizhinjam project.  The centre had assured to give relaxation as and when the project becomes operational. It would be informed to the companies, he said.

The minister said the government will take steps after taking the companies into confidence. What all changes should be made will be decided after understanding their requirements? Whether it should be done immediately or at the time of re-tender will be examined.
