Police van accident: Case against driver

PATHANAMTHITTA: In connection with Tuesday’s accident in which a police van crushed to death three persons at Ezhamkulam in Adoor, a case has been registered again ASI Thave Vettipram Shaji, who was driving the vehicle. He has been charged  for culpable homicide and for driving vehicle after consuming liquor. But, Shaji who was manhandled by the locals at the spot, has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for urgent operation.   

The accident happened around 7 pm on Tuesday at Ezhamkulam Milk society junction when a group of people were returning after attending a temple festival. The police van lost control and rammed into the group, killing three persons including a couple. Two persons including a woman were injured and the condition of a person is serious. The dead were identified as Sivashankara Pillai (72), his wife Ratnamma (65) and Unnikrishnan Achari (48).

The crowd were returning from Kumbabharani festival of Ezhamkulam Devi Temple when the police van from Pathanamthitta A R Camp that came that way turned killer vehicle.
