KOCHI: A provision store in Kadavanthra was gutted by fire around 4 am on Thursday. The shop belonged to A K Abdul Nasar, a native of Kozhikode. The firemen could bring the fire under control only after a hour’s toil. The shop owner said the damage resulted in a loss of Rs 20 lakh for him.
The shop was located near St Sebastian Church at Kadavanthra Gandhinagar and it sold groceries, and fruits. The go-down attached to the shop also caught fire. The mishap occurred after workers in the shop put down the shutter and went off to sleep. The four workers usually slept on the fourth floor of the building. They informed the fire force after they came to notice fire and smoke billowing out of the shop.
