PATHANAMTHITTA: A police van rammed into a crowd of people who were returning after a temple festival on Tuesday and three persons died in the accident. Several people were also injured and they have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
Among the injured, the condition of one is serious.
Three persons who died in the accidnet have been identified as Sivasankara Pillai (72), his wife Ratnamma (65) and Unnikrishnan Achari (48) from Kottarakkara.
The police van had lost its control and found its way into the crowd of people who were returning from Ezhamkulam Devi Temple festival, according to witnesses. The locals alleged that the driver was in inebriated condition.
A tense situation prevailed in the area for hours.
