Move to sabotage Vizhinjam project: V S

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a statement, Opposition leader  V S Achuthanandan has said that  boycotting the tender procedures for Vizhinjam project by companies shows the government’s disinterest in implementing the project. It is a reflection of Oommen Chandy’s conspiracy to sabotage the project from the beginning itself.

“The UDF government had subverted the Landlord port concept devised by the former LDF government and converted it to PPP mode. The present situation is a setback received to the change of concept. It is a project that needs lots of research works and international campaign before its commencement. But the government had jumped into a decision to begin the project as if they are making an offering.” VS said.

“To build the basic infrastructure for the project, the former LDF government had acquired 64 hectre land. To raise the capital,  a consortium of banks under SBT was also formed and through this steps were taken to collect Rs 2500 crore. Besides this, Rs 450 crore was set apart in the budget to develop the infrastructure. The present government has not made any progress from that position even by an inch,” he said in the statement.
