Sivaratri celebrated in state

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Maha Sivaratri was celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm in the state Tuesday. Hundreds of devotees thronged various Lord Siva temples, including Sreekandeswaram, Aruvippuram, adakkunathan, Aluva, Chengannur, in the morning to offer prayers.

Thousands of people thronged the holy Sivaratri Manalpuram on the banks of Periyar river in Aluva to offer 'Tharpanam' (paying obeisance) to their forefathers on Sivaratri day. Police made elaborate security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival at all the major temples in the state.
