Cheruvathur bank theft: Four of seven accused held

KASARGOD: The police Sunday said there are seven accused in the case in connection with the theft of 19.5 kilgorams of gold and Rs 3 lakh from Vijaya Bank in Cheruvathur. Out of the seven, four persons have been arrested, said Kasargod SP Dr A Sreenivas at a press meet.

Sulaiman (50) of Kudagu, Abdul Latheef (32) of Balal, Manaf of Kasargod and Mubasheer of Kanhangad are the arrested. Rajesh of Idukki, Murali and Ashraf of Kadagu are the ones to be nabbed, he said.  

The gold burgled and hidden in an unused well has been recovered. The gold was recovered from the well after questioning Sulaiman.  Sreenivas said lapses on the side of the officials in arranging security for the bank and the role of bank employees in the incident would be probed. Latheef is an accused in the theft which happened at the Rajadhani Jewellery in Kanhangad in 2010, the police said.
