Collector wants flex boards removed


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collector and Electoral Officer Biju Prabhakar has said that political parties should come forward to remove flex boards and banners that are illegally installed at junctions and on posts. Speaking at a meeting held in the presence of Election General Observer M T Reju to review the election preparations here on Tuesday, Prabhakar said political parties had to exercise self-restrain when it came to flex boards and banners. Those which posed inconvenience for the public at junctions would be removed.

There were many spots where accidents were caused by haphazardly installed banners and flags on posts etc, he said. Reju said that if such obstructive boards and flags were not removed, the administration would remove them and the expenses would be listed along with those of the candidates.

The officials also reiterated the earlier instructions on use of loudspeakers, stressing on prior permission from the police circle inspector’s office and that loudspeakers were not to be used after 10 pm. Police officials at the meeting said necessary security arrangements would be made at booths and areas identified as being sensitive by political parties. Lists of such areas were to be furnished before October 28.

City Police Commissioner H Venkatesh, Rural SP K Shefeen Ahamed, DCP K Sanjay Kumar Gurudin and other officials were present, according to an official release.
