Corruption in Cashew Corpn: Register case, says vigilance

KOLLAM: The vigilance has prepared a report recommending a detailed probe after registering a case on the corruption in the Cashew Development Corporation. The Kollam vigilance unit will hand over the quick verification report to the director this week.  

Corruption has taken place in the contract given to procure cashew. The report says the managing director who signed the contract should be included as an accused. Cashew was procured after paying more than the price of the market price. The corporation procured cashew for Rs 117 when it was between Rs 100 to Rs 107 in the market. The corporation incurred a loss through it. The probe has noticed that the procured cashew was not of international standard. A detailed probe is needed on it.

The government granted 30 crore for the Cashew Corporation. Out of the amount, 13 core was earmarked for procuring cashew. The report said the irresponsible attitude of the corporation incurred a loss.

The Kerala High Court had earlier ordered a CBI probe on the corruption.
