Gandhiji was able to keep all communities united: A K Antony

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress Working Committee member A K Antony has said all should take oath to safeguard the integrity of the nation. “ If all of us unite under one roof, our nation will become world’s most powerful and richest nation,” he said.

Antony was speaking after flagging off ‘Gandhi yatra’ organised by Gandhi Peace Foundation in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.

“Gandhiji’s greatest contribution was that he was able to to bring together farmers, the poor and people from all walks of life irrespective of their religion, caste and mother tongue. He worked among the suffering people to understand the problems of the nation. He came back from South Africa and took a giant leap into Indian National Movement only after proving the power of nonviolence there. Before joining the Independence movement, he took advice from his guru Gopalakrishna Gokhale, who asked him to wait for one year and study general issues of India and people’s hardships. Only after that he started his work for India’s Independence,” Antony said.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Minister K C Joseph and singer Yesudas took part in the function.
