Argument over candidates’ list hots up; Chandy sticks to his stand

EW DELHI: The Congress High Command is trying to reach a consensus among Congress candidates regarding Congress candidates’ list for the upcoming Assembly election. The chief minister has stuck to his stand that no change will be allowed to the choice of candidates over which arguments exist. It has also been decided to appoint panels for all disputed seats. The election committee will take a final decision on candidates’ list.

Party president Sonia Gandhi will intervene to sort out the issue even as Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and KPCC president V M Sudheeran met Sonia Gandhi separately.

When Chennithala was for compromises, Chandy and Sudheeran have stuck to their stand. Chandy is even said to have lost his temper while responding to Chennithala’s instructions.

In between the above developments, prior to the screening committee, I Group leaders held a meeting in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Ramesh Chennithala, K C Venugopal, K Muraleedharan and K Sudhakaran. AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, who is charge of Kerala, held a meeting with A K Antony.
