National film awards: Pathemari best Malayalam film, M Jayachandran best music director

NEW DELHI: With the announcement of 63rd National Film award, Malayalam cinema found its pride of place for having won eight awards, which included the best actor award and best music director award.  

Pathemari directed by Salim Ahammed is the best Malayalam film. Music director M Jayachandran got the award for the song ‘Kathirunnu Kathirunnu…’ he had composed for the film Ennu Ninte Moideen. This his first national award.

Actor Jayasurya got special reference for his acting in films such as Lukka Chippi and Su Su Sudhi Vatmeekam. 

When Gujarat got the newly instituted award titled the best-cinema friendly state, Kerala got special reference in this category.
Nirnayakam directed by V K Prakash got the award for best film with social commitment. Director Dr Biju’s Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal was chosen as the best environmental film. Mater Gourav got the award for the best child actor for his acting in the film Ben.   

He had also won the State award in the same category.

In the non-feature film session, the Malayalam cinema got three awards. Kamuki directed by Christo Tomy got the award for the best short film. ‘Amma’ documentary’s director Neelan and Prof. Aliyar, the director of documentary on Guru Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair got jury’s special reference.
