Online Taxis can’t be prohibited: HC

KOCHI: Kerala High Court in its order has clarified that online taxis can’t be prevented. Not only that, it has also asked the government to give protection to online taxis and drivers. The police chief was asked to make necessary arrangement to facilitate parking for online taxis at places like railway stations and bus stations. “Action should be taken against those who hinder the functioning of Online services. Like other drivers online taxi drivers also have the right to make a living from driving.”

The court made the above observation while considering the petition filed by online taxi drivers, seeking protection to their life.
This move came in the backdrop of taxi drivers locking horns with online taxi drivers including uber taxi drivers when the latter tried to park their cars near the formers’ taxi stands. The dispute had even led to clashes between the two groups.

When online taxi drivers went to the airports and railway stations to receive their customers, other taxi drivers rushed to prevent them and pick a quarrel with them. Online taxi drivers had mentioned these facts in their petition.
