V D Rajappan passes away

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Popular Kadhaprasangam artiste and comedy film actor V D Rajappan breathed his last on Thursday morning. He died at a private hospital in Kottayam, where he was under treatment for old-age related diseases.

Rajappan was admitted to hospital on March 8.

Rajappan who started his Katahaprasangam career at the age of 22, has acted in about 50 Malayalam films. He started off as a comedy star. Kakka, Kuyilinethedi, Engane Nee Marakkum, Attakalasam, Man of the Match, Kusrithikkattu and Panchavadi Palam were his hit films.

In his Kathaprasangams, he humorously narrated the stories which had animals and vehicles as main characters. Dogs, Ox, Buffalo, Frog, Hen and Snake were his popular characters.

He also used parodies of Malayalam film songs in his programmes. The fame of his stories like Priye Ninte Kura, Kumari Eruma, Mak Mak, Chikayunna Sundari and Ennennum Kurangettan crossed seas to foreign lands.  

Ali Babayum Ararakallanmaraum was his last film. He withdrew from the film scene as his health started deteriorating.

He is survived by wife Sulochana and sons Rajesh and Rajeev.
