VS seeks immediate distribution of drinking water

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a statement, Opposition leader V S Achuthanadan has urged the government to take immediate steps to distribute drinking water in tanker lorries in the wake of summer drought and  shortage of pure water.

“The State is going through a never-before-seen drought and scarcity of water. In district like Palakkad, the temperature is soaring at 40 degree Celsius and above. In almost all districts women bearing pots are walking kilometres for a pot of pure water. Even after the situation worsened, neither the government nor district administration is doing anything to supply water in tanker lorries. In former years, the government used to sanction Rs core each to district authorities for water distribution but this time it didn’t happen. Ministers are busy with corruption, playing groupism and ensuring their seats in Assembly election. The non-availability of lifeline water will imperil the people. Hence the government should shirk of their laziness and  release funds for the distribution of drinking water,
