KOCHI: DGP Jacob Thomas has come out with a veiled criticism against former DGP Winson M Paul, who was recently elevated as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). “Those who eye promotions will only stand by the government,” he said this at a function in Kochi on Saturday.
“Five years ago people used to ask who the corrupt were and now they have started asking who the biggest corrupt is. The Vigilance was taken outside the purview of the Right to Information act to protect the corrupt. I was surprised to see the order in this regard,” said Thomas.
The Kerala high court had asked the government to continue the status quo in the recruitment of the CIC. Not only that, it was also asked to submit documents regarding the appointment. Winson M Paul was appointed as the CIC, bypassing the dissent of Selection Committee member and Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan.
