Four-year Rigorous Imprisonment for Saranya bus driver


KOLLAM: Kollam Additional Sessions court has ordered four-year rigorous imprisonment for Sunil Kumar (34) from Pattazhi in an accident case in which two women had died.

The dead were Sherifa Beevi (65) from Ummannoor and Umaimuthu (55) from Chunkathara. The incident happened on October 1, 2012. Sunil Kumar was the driver of the bus, Sharanya, which plied Kottarakkara Oyur route.

The bus which came along the spot in a high speed lost control when it tried to overtake a KSRTC transport bus. After that it went and hit the women. People were able to pull out Sharifa from under the bus only after amputating her leg. Both died in hospital later.
Following the accident, Sharanya bus’ permit was cancelled. District Additional Govt pleader and Public prosecutor A M Asim and Advocate N Muhammed Navaz appeared for the prosecution.
