Woman dies; Family agrees to donate organs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman who came from Kozhikode to the capital city to see the dead body of her brother, who was shot dead in Sudan, had to fall into the hands of death on Tuesday.

Sherly Sebastian’s (49) death shocked the entire family but the latter displayed mental strength to donate her internal organs to six lives.

Sherly’s brother was shot dead in Sudan and his body was about to reach his house at Peroorkkada in Thiruvananthapuram, where Sherly reached on Monday evening. Sherly had to stay there since she was informed that there would be a delay in bringing the body home.

It was then the pathetic end came when she was descending the stairs while talking to her son Jithin. She slipped and fell and received a fatal blow on her head. She was rushed to Pattom SUT Hospital. The doctors found that her skull was broken. She was declared brain dead at 3 am on Tuesday.

Though unable to accept her untimely death, her husband and children took a remarkable decision that her “organs should live”. At last, they agreed to donate her eyes, kidneys and liver to make her immortal
