THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The party is not against noted industrialist M A Yusaf Ali and there is no need for him to withdraw from the Bolgatty Project, said CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
Talking at a seminar organized by the Press Club, he said the party welcomes not only Yusaf Ali but all those willing to invest in the state.
The CPM has not alleged that Yusaf Ali had encroached land in connection with the Bolgatty Project. The Ernakulam district committee alleged that Cochin Port Trust had violated criteria. The authorities should examine that. The port trust who gave land for Lulu Group on lease should follow the criteria. The CPM will not oppose any developmental projects, he said.
No lapses occurred in granting permission to Lulu Mall during the tenure of the previous LDF Government. But the CPM district committee demanded to examine whether Edappally canal has been encroached in connection with the Lulu Mall. It was not the CPM who alleged that the canal has been encroached.
There are traffic snarls in front of the Lulu Mall. Only a flyover can rectify it. We just want to know whether it will be built by Lulu or whether the government will bear the full expenses of it or whether it will be a joint project by the government and the Lulu Mall. The party district committee just wants a clarification on it.
Pinarayi said there is a law for obtaining money from Lulu for constructing the flyover. If the government is willing to build it, then the party is not against it, he said.
