Development of NH: Panel led by chief secretary to be appointed

NEW DELHI: A panel led by chief secretary Jiji Thomson will be appointed to solve the problems in connection with the development of national highways in the state, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The government has agreed in principle centre’s directive making width of national highway to 45 metres.

Talking to reporters after holding talks with Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chandy said there are some problems in acquiring land for the national highway.  A high level panel has been appointed in order to solve the matter.

Three representatives of the national highway authority will be included in the panel. The centre had assured to consider relaxation on Cabotage for Vizhinjam Project. The centre also permitted to construct national highway to Kannur Airport and Vizhinjam harbour.
