Encroachment bid at Cheruvally Estate: One sustains hack injuries

ERUMELI: There was an encroachment bid at the Cheruvally Estate, owned by Believers Church founder K P Yohannan. One person was hacked and three others sustained injuries. Almost 50 persons have been taken into custody. A large contingent of police has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incidents.

Mathew Kavungal (52), native of Erumeli and an employee of the estate was hacked. Estate assistant manager Deepak and two others sustained injuries. The injured has been admitted at the Kanjirapally General Hospital.

As many as 300 persons from Kattappana and Idukki parts made a bid to encroach the estate Wednesday morning. They stood in different parts of the estate with lethal weapons. Police were camping in the area as they received information that a bid would be made by dalit organisations.
