THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Documents proving the involvement of Finance Minister K M Mani behind the controversial amendments to the Kerala Land Assignment Rules regularizing encroachments made till June 1, 2005, have been publicized. Mani made the suggestion at the meet convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in 2012 to discuss distribution of title deed in Idukki. He also voiced the demand to remove the provision that the land can be exchanged only after 25 years.
The decision taken at the meet was to register land for an acre for the encroachers, but Mani wanted to make if four acres. In the meanwhile, many including Left MLAs who attended the meet did not oppose Mani’s suggestion. The stiff opposition was not registered in the minutes of the meet also.
Mani had mentioned that a legislation would be brought later to get four acres of land for farmers and encroachers of the area after amending the act of 2005. The farmers having possession documents would be considered giving pension, assured Mani at the meet.
